{Cy is on the bed groaning. Calvin walks over to him and kneels down on bed.}
CALVIN: “OH! My poor brutha’! You are burning with illness!
Here, {Pick up bottle off stool} the doctor instructed us to take this every hour to heal you of the scarlet fever. Drink this:”
{Let Cy drink from the bottle, then put it back down on the stool.}
CALVIN: “I shall read you Tess of the D’Urbervilles.
{Flip through it, find a page and read it}
CALVIN: {Glance at bottle} “OH NO!!!!!!!!!! THIS IS NOT TONIC, THIS IS BLOOD ACID!!!!!!!!
“Of course!!! It is so simple! The doctor was drunk when he came to us; I could smell the alcohol upon his breath!!!
“Curses!! Curses!!! Curses!!!!!”
